“A ritually pounding rhythm that causes the bodies burst with defiance.” Dagens Nyheter
“Overall, ‘Dust and disquiet’ is filled with images that, like living tableaux vivants, create charged events.” Svenska Dagbladet
About
Johan Inger has created works for eminent dance companies worldwide. He has been artistic director of Cullbergbaletten and house choreographer at the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT). His latest work in Gothenburg was the evocative Falter (2010), involving nine dancers and 64 ropes.
The inspiration for the creation Dust and Disquet came to Johan Inger in Spain where he’s been living for many years:
“In 2021, there was a volcanic eruption in La Palma. It became so symbolic when the lava started seeping down the volcano. First there was a church being swallowed by the lava, then a school and so on. It went so slowly, but you knew exactly what was going to happen and nothing could be done. I found it symbolic for our time and it became the starting point of the creation.
Without sounding too dystopian, I want to ask the question: Are we too self-destructive? Will we be able to solve the challenges humanity is facing?”
