Gunilla Olsson Karlsson trained at the Stora Teatern Ballet School and Balettakademien in Gothenburg, and has now returned to the latter to teach in vocational education and training. Gunilla has worked and studied in New York, London and Paris and, after a long career as a dancer, she is now an in-demand choreographer. Her credits as a choreographer include musicals at Länsteatern i Skaraborg, Wermland Opera, Göta Lejon and Oscarsteatern in Stockholm, Slakthuset in Malmö, Spira in Jönköping, Theatre Vanemuine in Tartu, Estonia, and Helsinki City Theatre, where she choreographed Doctor Zhivago, Kinky Boots and The Little Mermaid.
Gunilla is a frequent collaborator at The Göteborg Opera, where among other productions she has choreographed Cats, a production that also visited Cirkus in Stockholm, My Fair Lady, Fame: The Musical, Romeo and Juliet, Guys and Dolls and Beauty and the Beast, not to mention 20 years with our traditional Christmas concert.
She has also choreographed major events for Volvo and Saab, cabarets and television programmes such as Aim for the Stars (in Sweden, Norway and Denmark), Småstjärnorna, Scenen är din, Diggiloo and, since 2014, Lotta på Liseberg.
In 2003, Gunilla Olsson Karlsson was awarded the Golden Mask as Best Choreography for Fame: The Musical.
