Hans Ek, conductor and music arranger who, through his ability to make music valid in our time regardless of origin and genre, has acquired a very special position in Nordic music life. This has led to a number of fruitful collaborations with Laleh, Veronica Maggio, Ane Brun, Renée Fleming, Michael Nyman, Metropole Orkest, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Phil and many more. For 10 years, Hans Ek acted as artistic director for the Polar Prize. In recent years, his own productions have been heard frequently both in Sweden and abroad e.g. Bowie in Berlin, E.S.T. Symphony, Chelsea Hotel, Kosmische Musik, Made by Björk, ENO-Remixed for Orchestra and Dance Music Symphony.
Hans Ek has arranged and conducted music for films such as Susanne Bier's Oscar-winning Revenge and the Norwegian blockbuster Kon-Tiki. He has collaborated with director Tomas Alfredsson; partly in the film Let the Right One In and partly in a new film about the Jönsson League which premiered in December 2020. With his ensemble Modern Fantazias he works consistently with music that has meant a lot to him. In the project Trans Europe Express he took the starting point in the legendary synth group Kraftwerk and then in composer portraits of Brian Eno and John Cage. Hans Ek regularly makes music arrangements for orchestras in Sweden and abroad. In February 2020, the New York Philharmonic and Renée Fleming performed music by Björk with arrangements by Hans. Together with the artist Jenny Wilson, Hans Ek has written the music for the album Trauma which was released in the spring of 2019. In February 2021, Hans Ek's new piano concerto Soundscapes 1974-78 was premiered with the Finnish pianist Iiro Rantala and Västerås Sinfonietta.
