Ingrid Tobiasson

Mezzo-soprano

Court singer Ingrid Tobiasson studied at the University College of Opera in Stockholm and made her debut in 1985 at Folkoperan as Amneris in Aida, a production that was also adapted into a film.

Early in her career, she performed roles such as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia at Folkoperan, Maddalena in Rigoletto at Norrlandsoperan, and Idamante in Idomeneo at Drottningholm Court Theatre.

In 1988, Tobiasson joined the Royal Swedish Opera, where she has performed a wide range of roles, including Carmen, Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda (also performed at Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville), Omega in Börtz's The Bacchae, Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana, Ortrud in Lohengrin, Amneris in Aida, Kundry in Parsifal, Brigitta in Die tote Stadt, Adalgisa in Norma, and Fricka in Das Rheingold.

Among her other engagements at Swedish opera houses, she has sung Isabella in L’Italiana in Algeri at Malmö Opera, Fidès in Meyerbeer's Le Prophète at Vasan/OperaVerket, and Amneris in Aida at Malmö Opera (also performed at Dalhalla). In 2023, Tobiasson performed as Filipyevna in Eugene Onegin at Den Norske Opera and as Madam in Daniel Nelson’s The Spirit Factory at Vadstena Castle.

Internationally, she has appeared at Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Monnaie in Brussels, and Oper Frankfurt on multiple occasions.

Tobiasson is a frequent guest with leading orchestras across Scandinavia and Finland, performing a broad repertoire ranging from Handel’s Messiah to Mahler’s Symphony No. 8. Her discography includes recordings of Lidholm’s A Dream Play, Korngold’s Die tote Stadt, Stenhammar’s Tirfing, Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder, and Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder, all with the Royal Swedish Orchestra conducted by Sixten Ehrling.

In 2020, Ingrid Tobiasson was awarded the royal medal Litteris et Artibus.
