The Norwegian tenor Kjetil Støa’s repertoire includes several iconic opera roles, such as Rodolfo in La Bohème, Calaf in Turandot, Radamès in Aïda, Cavaradossi in Tosca, and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly.
In 2023 and 2024, Støa made his debut at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm as Števa in Jenůfa and at the Göteborg Opera as Erik in Der fliegende Holländer.
During the 2021/22 season, Støa debuted as Cavaradossi in Tosca at Kristiansund Opera, as Don Carlos in Verdi’s opera at Folkoperan in Stockholm, and as Radamès in Aïda at Opera Hedeland. He also performed with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra in a concert version of the opera Fredkulla by Norwegian composer Martin Andreas Udbye and participated in a Christmas tour in Sweden.
Among his recent performances are Macduff at Kristiansund Opera, the tenor role in the opera Borregaard at Sarpsborg Scene, Norway, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte at Opera på Skäret, Calaf in Turandot at Folkoperan in Sweden, Rodolfo in La Bohème at Kristiansund Opera and in Vestfold, Tormod Kolbrunarskald in the Norwegian production Spelet om Heilag Olav in Stiklestad, Norway, and KibergOdysséen with the Arctic Opera and Symphony Orchestra.
Other roles and engagements include Zinovij Borisovich Izmailov in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, Messagero in Aïda, Shepard in Oedipus Rex, and the Fourth Jew in Salome, all at the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet. He has also performed as Wagner in Mefistofele (Boito) at Trondheim Music Theatre, Rodolfo in La Bohème in a touring production with NorrlandsOperan and Riksteatern in Sweden, the Emperor in Turandot with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra in a concert performance, and Edwin in Die Csárdásfürstin at the Oslo Opera Festival. Støa also participated in the world premiere of the opera I Cancelliradens Dage (Ragnar Söderlind) at Ringsaker Opera in Norway and in KibergOdysséen with the Arctic Opera and Symphony Orchestra.
Støa holds a Master’s degree in Opera from the University College of Opera (formerly the University College of Opera Stockholm) and a Master of Arts in Music Performance from NTNU, Trondheim Conservatory of Music. He has been awarded several prizes and scholarships, including the Nord-Trøndelag County Cultural Scholarship and a grant from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
