Danish conductor Magnus Larsson (b. 1992) has quickly established himself as one of the new, young Scandinavian conductors.
Already during his studies, Larsson made his mark on the Nordic stages and conducted several concerts and performances with the leading Scandinavian orchestras and is now a sought-after opera conductor as well as a symphonic conductor.
In the season 2022-23, Larsson will make his debut as a guest conductor at the Gotheburg Opera, at the Rued Langgaard Festival in Ribe in Per Nørgård’s opera “Gilgamesh” as well at the Njord Festival in Copenhagen in Per Nørgårds opera “Nuit des Hommes” and in a new production of Verdi’s opera “Macbeth” at the Svendborg Opera.
He recently made his debut at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen in Carl Nielsen's opera "Masquerade" and was immediately re-engaged as assistant conductor on their production of Shostakovich’s opera "The Nose".
At the Royal Danish Opera he has also been engaged in Mozart's "Così fan Tutte", as well as Dominick Argento's opera "Postcard from Morocco". He has also assisted in the NorrlandOperan's production of Verdi's "La Traviata” and at the Malmö Opera.
As a symphonic conductor he will return this season to Copenhagen Phil, twice to Odense Symphony Orchestra, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and more.
He has conducted several of the Danish and Swedish orchestras, including The Royal Danish Life Guards, Sønderjyllands Symphony Orchestra, Gävle Symphony Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra and elsewhere.
In addition, he also conducted the "P2 Prize Concert" with Odense Symphony Orchestra and first-performed works by the Danish composer Bent Sørensen.
He has been awarded several prizes, Carl Nielsen Talent Prize (2022) as well as the prestigious talent prize Léonie Sonnings Talent Prize (2020) and was in the same year awarded the career scholarship “The Young Artistic Elite” by The Danish Arts Foundation, as well as the Arne Hammelboes Travel Grant (2021) among other. He is a first prize in the international Opera Conductor Competition in Prague "EMA".
Magnus Larsson he played both violin and piano as a child, and began his studies in orchestral conducting at the age of just 21. He is educated at the conservatories in Copenhagen and Stockholm under Giordano Bellincampi and Michael Schønwandt among others.
He has also received masterclasses from Alexander Vedernikov and Fabio Luisi and more.
In addition to his work as a conductor, Magnus Larsson is also an organist and composer and holds the position as 2nd organist at Holmen’s Church in Copenhagen.
