Vassilis Kavayas

Vassilis Kavayas, tenor was born in Athens in 1986. He studied music composition at the Ionian University in Corfu and Opera at the Municipal Conservatory of Kalamata (C. Yannakopoulou). He graduated his master studies in Opera with B.Bonney at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. He studied also with Aris Christofelis.

In 2007 he received the First Prize at the National Yamaha’s Vocal Competition (YMFE) in Athens and in 2013 he joined the Rossini Opera Academy in Pesaro under the guidance of Alberto Zedda.

In 2008 he made his debut as Edoardo in Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonio at the Municipal Theatre of Corfu. He has sung principal belcanto and mozartian roles like Ramiro, Almaviva, Lindoro, Elvino, Fenton, Tamino, Ferrando, Don Ottavio, Belmonte as well as operetta and solo sacred music at the national operahouses of Budapest, Prague, Athens, Bologna, Trieste, Cagliari, Lisbon, Theater an der Wien, Stockholm, Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro a.o. and at Concert Halls like Bozar, Berlin Konzerthaus, Liederhalle Stuttgart a.o. In Gothenburg he has already interpreted Brighella from Ariadne auf Naxos and Almaviva from Barbiere di Siviglia. His discography includes two First World Premieres such as Gluck’s Il trionfo di Clelia (DMG) and Weigl’s Il Sacrifizio (Newplay) and additionally Rossini’s Semiramide (Mitrane) (Naxos).
