Victoria Brattström is a Swedish director and actress, as well as Senior Lecturer in Performance Practices at the University of Gothenburg Academy of Music and Drama. Her broad experience as director ranges from community theatre productions to modern musicals. Victoria has directed large outdoor performances with circus acrobats, choirs and dancers; as well as intimate chamber plays for Swedish Radio and Television.
In 2012, Victoria Brattström directed a critically acclaimed production of the musical Next to Normal at the Wasa Teater in Finland. In the autumn of 2016, she directed Passion, a musical by Stephen Sondheim, in its Scandinavian premiere for Smålands Musik & Teater in Jönköping and then again in the spring of 2017 for the Norrland Opera House.
Some of her productions also include: Iron by Rona Munro at the Gothenburg City Theatre, Bad Girls by Joyce Carol Oates at Folkteatern and for National Swedish Television, the classic Euripides Medea as a modern circus performance at Kinnekulle Amphitheatre, as well as creation and direction of ‘Jag är perfekt’ (I am perfect), an original piece of musical theatre for Pusterviksteatern in Gothenburg. As an actress, you may have seen Victoria for example as the main character Sara in the Swedish television drama Poliser (The Police).
Victoria Brattström will soon graduate with a PhD degree in Performance Practices in an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Academy of Music and Drama, and the Centre for Person-Centre Care at the University of Gothenburg.
