Anticipation and longing are the themes discussed in the first episode of Spotlight, the Göteborg Opera’s talk show. These themes have figured strongly in our lives during the pandemic. To help us manage the frustration, we’ve invited special guests Klara Zimmergren and Kent Wisti, who are both well-known for finding the funny side of problems. You’ll be served music with musical artist David Lundqvist, opera singer Ingela Brimberg and the Göteborg Opera Chorus. Presenter: opera soloist Åke Zetterström.
New year, new possibilities! Let’s hope so. The second episode of Spotlight explores new beginnings, dreams and goals – and how to make them come true.
World artist Ane Brun, comedian and journalist Ina Lundström, life coach Tomas Enhager and opera soloist Carolina Sandgren sort out the concepts and dream together with our host, opera soloist Åke Zetterström.
The episode also includes a Tosca aria performed by Carolina Sandgren, a new “Bucket List Song” with opera soloists Ann-Kristin Jones and Mia Karlsson, and a glimpse of the highly anticipated world premiere 12 songs, with GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.

The third edition of Spotlight, to be released on International Women's Day, is dedicated to discussions surrounding gender equality. How can we all have equal opportunities, and what is really worth fighting for today?
We meet actor, director and comedian Sissela Kyle, who educated Swedish TV audiences in the series Fröken Frimans krig (Miss Friman's War), composer Paula af Malmborg Ward, whose new opera Mytomania was planned to have its First Performance at the Göteborg Opera in February 2021, and Julia Zigiotti Olme, member of the Sweden women’s national football team, a recent Swedish Championship gold winner with Göteborg FC.
There will also be a panel debate between three artistic directors with the power to promote change: Katrín Hall and Henning Ruhe from the Göteborg Opera and Stefan Forsberg, who has worked dedicatedly to create a more gender-equal repertoire at Stockholm Concert Hall.
The March of the Women by Ethel Smyth from 1910, which became the official anthem for the women’s suffrage movement, the first movement from Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in E-flat major, performed by Klarakvartetten. There will also be an excerpt from Mytomania as well as from the dance piece Sessions by Emilie Leriche, dancer in GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.

This could be a seminal encounter with another person or with nature. A life crisis or an utterly transformative art experience.
As always, our chat show guests offer up unexpected perspectives. Runner and author Markus Torgeby talks about the five years he spent alone in a hut in the forest. Emeritus Professor Gunnar Bjursell discusses how cultural experiences reshape our brains. Benjamin Behrends, a dancer in GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, and student Boel Lundgren share their experience of One on One, a unique dance performance.

“You Will Be Found” from the musical Dear Evan Hansen performed by musical artists Jacob Andréas, Natasja Jean-Charles, Robin Lake, Michelle Sjo Lønne and Viktor Stener. We’ll also listen to music from Haydn’s string quartet “The Seven Last Words of Christ”, performed by musicians Øyvor Volle, Karin Berggren, Magnus Pehrsson and Frida Bromander.
Everyone likes feel like they’re in control. However, the past year has challenged us, and we have been forced to adjust and change our plans time and time again. The last episode of our chat show this spring deals with how to prepare for the unpredictable and to improvise, as well as our strive to make plans, even if it is impossible.
As always, our chat show guests offer up unexpected perspectives. The theater group 123 Schtunk works with improvisational theater, and they challenge the world of drama, themselves and their audience in unique performances every night. GöteborgsOperan's head chef, Johan Roos, talks about the importance of being able to handle the unpredictable and to be able to improvise. GöteborgsOperan's chef Jens Karlsson and Ayla Canpunar, who came in second place in Sweden's master chef, cook a meal based on unknown ingredients.
In addition, we get a glimpse from the choreographer Alexander Ekman's workshop with GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.
