Join us for an unforgettable experience where musicians from three orchestras gather for a music marathon in support of Ukraine’s music scene. On Saturday 28 May, the foyer will be filled with singing and music from morning to late evening.
From Piazzolla to John Williams, from Mozart to Bäck. There will be ensembles of different sizes and combinations – from solo cello to large horn ensemble – as some sixty musicians from Gothenburg’s three orchestras and singers from the Göteborg Opera gather together to raise funds for Ukraine. Enjoy a coffee, a drink or a bite to eat. Our café, bar and restaurant will stay open, regardless of whether you visit briefly or stay for the whole marathon.
The Music Marathon to support Ukraine’s music scene has free admission. You decide whether and how much to donate (see below for details). All the proceeds will be donated to support the rebuilding of Ukraine’s music scene and music institutions such as schools, orchestras and concert halls. The Royal Swedish Academy of Music has set up the fundraising account and will administer the donations and distribute the donated funds to suitable institutions in Ukraine. The funds raised may be used, for example, to pay for the purchase of new instruments and other necessary equipment such as music scores and technology.
The initiative is being organised by the Göteborg Opera, whose orchestra director Andreas Lönnqvist telephoned a Ukrainian colleague to ask how Swedish musicians could contribute. The answer was: ‘Buy instruments – ours are in flames.’ Culture is an indispensable part of life for the Göteborg Opera, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Gothenburg Wind Orchestra and our Ukrainian colleagues – both today and when Ukraine is rebuilt in the future.
A very warm welcome!
