Once, we were all going to live forever. Puccini’s La Bohème is easy to love. In four short acts, Puccini’s La Bohème captures the recklessness of youth, where it blossoms, wilts and dies.

In Paris, young poet Rodolfo bumps into a neighbour in the dark. He remarks how cold her hand is, and she tells him her name is Mimì. The start of love affair can be as simple as that. But something is wrong with Mimì. She seems ill, and the couple’s and their friends’ intensive lifestyle doesn’t help matters. When spring comes to Paris, it doesn’t only bring life. And love does not conquer all.

Puccini’s La Bohème is easy to love. In four short acts, he captures the essence of the recklessness of youth, where youth itself blossoms, wilts and dies. Joy and despair co-exist in tandem.

We welcome the revival of our successful production from 2020, by a young, British team is set in a dreary 1970’s Paris; a time and place where bohemian intellectuals, student revolts and protest marches reawakened dreams of a better, more just society. In her role debut as Mimì, Ida Falk Winland masterfully exhibits the delicate balance between endurance and fragility. Conductor Vincenzo Milletarì sets Puccini’s music free to fly as high as these young adults’ dreams.
