Come and celebrate the world of culture at the Göteborg Opera during the Gothenburg Culture Festival.

Artists from the Göteborg Opera will perform when the whole city explodes with culture. There will be an orchestral concert with solo singers on the Main Stage, a family sing-along, a piano festival, dance performances and more.

Friday 30 August

Rehearsals for Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Main Stage, 15:00–16:00

Sit in the Dress Circle to watch rehearsals for the musical Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as the cast prepares for the Swedish premiere in September. Featuring musical artists and the Göteborg Opera Orchestra, performed in Swedish.

Please note that this is not a full performance, but a work-in-progress rehearsal where the director may interrupt to give notes, instruct the performers to re-do a certain section, and so on.

Find the Golden Ticket! Just like in Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – this autumn's big musical at the Göteborg Opera – we've hidden a number of golden tickets around the city. Whoever finds a golden ticket will win 2 tickets to the musical. Everyone may participate, but please note that the person redeeming the prize must be over 18 years old.

ONE golden ticket is hidden in the Culture Festival’s area at Grönsakstorget. We'll announce from the stage when it's time to start searching. When the ticket is found (and the day's competition is concluded), we'll announce it from the stage and on our Instagram account, @goteborgsoperan. Instructions for redeeming the prize are on the golden ticket itself.

Family Dance
Small Stage, 10:30–11:00 and 11.45–12.15

For children aged 5–12 and accompanying adults. A playful dance session where we explore movement through imagination and the body's capabilities. Please wear soft, comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement. We dance in socks. Language: Swedish. Led by Angelina Allen de Melo, former dancer in GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.

Movement and Improvisation Workshop
Small Stage, 13:00–14:00

For ages 15 and up. Welcome to a workshop that offers you the opportunity to explore emotions, experiences, and playfulness through movement and dance for one hour. We recommend that participants wear comfortable clothes that allow free movement. No prior experience is necessary. Language: Swedish and English. Led by Janine Koertge, former dancer in GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.

Bergsjöns Kulturhus, 14:00–15:00

Family Sing-Along
Main Stage, 14:00–15.15

Come and sing with the Göteborg Opera Children’s and Senior Youth Choir and opera singers! We'll warm up in the main auditorium with a group rehearsal where you'll learn parts of the program with us in a playful manner. Then it's concert time in the foyer, and you're welcome to sing along from your seat in the audience.

Culture Festival Concert: Seasonal Delights
Main Stage, 18:00–19:30 (ingen paus)

Highlights from the new season and well-known music from the world of opera. Featuring opera singers Kerstin Avemo, Julia Sporsén, Tobias Westman and Mats Persson together with the Göteborg Opera Orchestra. Songs and music from Carmen, Tosca, Otello, Madama Butterfly, Peter Grimes, Iolanta and Der Schauspieldirektor. Conducted by Martyna Szymczak. Presenter: Göran Gademan, dramaturge.

Slottsskogsvallen, 11:00– approx. 12:00

Find the Golden Ticket! Just like in Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – this autumn's big musical at the Göteborg Opera – we've hidden golden tickets around the city. Whoever finds a golden ticket wins a voucher for two tickets to any show of their choice during the autumn season – for example, to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Everyone may participate, but please note that the person redeeming the prize must be over 18 years old.

In the Culture Festival's area at Slottsskogsvallen, we've hidden 1 golden ticket. From 11:00, keep an eye out for the golden ticket. When it's found, we'll announce it over the loudspeakers at Slottsskogsvallen and on our Instagram account @goteborgsoperan. When the ticket is found, the competition ends. Instructions for redeeming the prize are on the golden ticket.

Awards ceremony: Birch Trumpeter of the Year (Årets näverlur)
Foyer, 11:15–12:00

Annual cultural award to the individual or group working in the Nordic region that has done most to promote herders’ music and traditional birch trumpet playing in the Nordic folk music tradition.

Piano Festival
Small Stage, 11:00–13:45

The festival is divided into two parts beginning at 11:00 (Panel discussion about Smetana’s influence on the music life in Gothenburg) and 12:30 respectively (Year of Czech Music 2024 with Trio Smetana from Prague). A cooperation between the Göteborg Piano Festival, the Ministry of Czech Culture and Year of Czech Music 2024.
