Love, loss and acceptance are at the centre of Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite’s beautiful dance work Solo Echo, created in 2012 for the Nederlands Dans Theater, where Pite is the resident choreographer.

The powerful, refined movements of the dancers capture the transience and losses of life, and our acceptance of them. The music comprises two sonatas for cello and piano by the melancholic Johannes Brahms. The choreography is based on a poem by Mark Strand, “Lines of Winter”. Along with gently falling snowflakes, thoughts of the sadness of winter are evoked. Crystal Pite returns this season with Frontier, part of Dusk to Dawn.
