On stage stands a chest that holds all the music in the world. But a wicked witch, determined to silence the world, has destroyed the key to the chest. Now, the audience must help outsmart the witch and recover the missing pieces. By singing, movement, sound-making, and solving riddles together with the opera singers and orchestra, children become part of the quest to unlock the chest and set the music free once more.
Along the way, we encounter some of opera’s greatest heroes and heroines, as well as a host of orchestral instruments. But the witch has drained their powers—the musicians cannot play; the singers have lost their voices. Only with the children's help can their strength be restored, and the magical key pieced back together.
This production will also be performed as a school matinee on 19 and 20 March.
