You can also give your subscription tickets to someone else you know if you are unable to attend. Rebooking insurance is also included in all subscriptions.

Before your visit
What should I wear?
That’s completely up to you – we have no dress code at the Göteborg Opera.
Of course, many people arrive at premieres more dressed-up than usual, but it’s up to your own preference. Just wear what you feel comfortable in, so that you can sit, relax, and enjoy the performance.
However, we do ask that you help us by not using perfume, cologne or other scents. This will allow people with chemical allergies to also enjoy their visit to the Opera house!
What time should I arrive?
Please note that at the moment there is a large, ongoing city infrastructure project around the opera house which affects ease of access and parking locations. We advise you plan for a longer journey than expected. Learn more about how this project affects access to the house here.
If you are not going to collect your ticket here in the box office (where sometimes there is a queue), you may arrive about 30 minutes before the performance begins. But we invite you to arrive earlier to have time to unwind, enjoy the buzzing atmosphere in our foyer, have something tasty to eat or drink, or perhaps order some refreshments for the intermission.
Introductions
If you would like, we also offer introductions to our opera and dance performances (note: usually presented in Swedish) which begin 1 hour before the performance begins, and are free if you have a ticket. We also present video introductions on the show page (for most performances on the Main Stage).
What happens if I arrive late?
When the performance has begun, the doors are closed and you are not allowed to enter until the next break in the performance. Make sure you leave for the Opera house with time to spare, and note that there is currently a large city-wide infrastructure project going on around the Opera house which can affect ease of access to the house and availability of parking.
Learn more about the roadworks and tips for how to arrive in time.
Where can I park my bicycle?
There is bicycle parking near the main entrance – beside the marina to the right of the opera house (if you are facing the harbour).
What payment methods do you accept?
You kan pay with the usual credit and debit cards, and of course our gift cards. We have been cash-free since 1 January 2020.
How long is the intermission between acts?
Intermission lengths can vary, depending on how much of the set needs to be adjusted by our technical staff, but are usually around 25–35 minutes long.
Check the length of each performance on its show page – the exact length is usually updated a day or two before the premiere. After the dress rehearsal we are able to measure most accurately. Before this, estimated show lengths are approximate.
Can you help me with my wheelchair?
Once you arrive, contact our foyer staff and we will be happy to assist you. We have specially adapted places for wheelchair users in the stalls at row 22. These places can only be booked via our box office, which you can contact on 031-13 13 00 or biljetter@opera.se.
You can find more information about accessibility and assistance here
Are guide dogs allowed?
Guide dogs, service dogs and signal dogs can accompany you into the auditorium and stay with you if you require. Let the box office staff know that you have an assistance dog when you book your ticket, by calling tel. +46 31 131 300.
I have a hearing impairment. Do you have anything to assist me?
You can borrow infra-red hearing aids from our foyer staff. Learn more about which accessibility tools we can provide. Opera and musical performances are also usually subtitled in both Swedish and English.
I use a walker, crutches or cane – what assistance is available for me?
For safety reasons, all guests who have not purchased a wheelchair space must be able to get in and out of the auditorium themselves.
If you use a mobility aid, please inform an usher who will accompany to your row and take care of your mobility aid for you.
You are welcome to use your mobility aid to get to your row of seats. After that, you will need to be able to get to your seat without your mobility aid. Our ushers will take care of your mobility aid, which may not remain with you in the auditorium since loose objects can pose a risk for other guests. At the interval and the end of the performance, an usher will return your mobility aid to you.
Where is the Small Stage?
You access the Small Stage via the main entrance and foyer. The entrance to the Small Stage is inside the foyer to the left of the Opera Shop. Ask one of our staff and they will be happy to guide you.
We present many events and performances on the Small Stage every season. Look under "Where: " at the top of each show page to see which stage is relevant for your visit. The stage name for each performance is also shown on your ticket.
Where is Skövde Kulturhus (Skövde Cultural Centre)?

May I take a suitcase or larger bag with me?
Our wardrobes/cloakrooms have limited space, so we can't guarantee that we have space to take larger bags. We request that you leave larger bags at home.
About the bag restriction
The Gothenburg Opera is not impacted by the Police’s requirement for a complete ban on bags at arena-sized events. However, we ask as always that you do not bring bulky items or larger bags to the house since they make evacuation more difficult in case of emergency. Also, our wardrobes have limited space, so we cannot guarantee that we will have enough room for larger items.

However, all types of photography, sound or video recording in the auditorium during the performance is strictly forbidden for copyright reasons. Please do not use mobile phones at all during the performance, as the light from the screen will distract both the performers on stage, as well as those sitting around you in the audience.
Is it OK to leave my mobile on silent mode?
Please leave your mobile phone in flight mode or completely powered off during the performance. If mobile phones are active but silent, they can still effect our audio equipment. Also, be aware that light shining from mobile phone screens in the auditorum during a performance is incredibily distracting for both the performers on stage and for your fellow audience members. Please wait until the performance has ended to check your phone.
