Moss Opera

Glass by designer Åsa Jungnelius and Kosta Boda

Åsa Jungnelius is an award-winning designer, artist and honorary doctorate at Linnaeus University who has worked with glass for Kosta Boda since 2007. With large bubbles that bring thoughts to the sea and bodies in motion, Moss Opera is her interpretation of the Gothenburg Opera. The collection includes a candle lantern, a small vase and a large bowl/vase.

“The collection is based on Kosta Boda's Moss series, where old molds from Kosta Glasbruk have been reused and carved by hand to create new expressions. The objects are made from recycled, circular glass - completely in line with Gothenburg Opera and Kosta Boda's focus on sustainability. Each production round receives a unique blue hue, as if taken from the color scale of the opera house or from the water outside.”

Opera Fantasia

Cushions, trays and napkins with pattern by designer Emma von Brömssen

Emma von Brömssen is a celebrated pattern designer and artist from Gothenburg, well known both in Sweden and abroad. The pattern Opera Fantasia interprets the Gothenburg Opera, located right by the river, colored with egg oil tempera in burnt sienna, gold ocher and blue, and decorated with East Indian porcelain. Opera Fantasia is sold as cushions, trays and napkins.

“The fish dance, the swans sing and the water in the river plays. Together with Gothenburg's lions, they all play different roles in an ongoing spectacle – an undulating history of performing arts. The graphic middle pattern is inspired by East Asian porcelain, which for centuries has been transported across the world’s oceans right here. The colors are taken from the color scheme of the opera house, the sky-blue facade and the warm terracotta of the interior.”

About Åsa Jungnelius

Åsa Jungnelius, born in 1975, is an internationally recognised artist and designer. Her professional practice as a designer is a reflection of her art, which is driven by the issues she is interested in. One example is the Make Up collection, which Jungnelius created for Kosta Boda as a mini-version of on of her works of art.

Jungnelius has worked with glass as a material since she was 17 years old. Since 2007, she has worked with Kosta Boda, and is today also a lecturer at Konstfack. She has previously initiated and run Residence-In-Nature, WeWorkInAFragileMaterial and LASTSTUDIO. Among her larger works is the sculpture Snäckan, which, in a tribute to motherhood, will embrace the entire upcoming Hagaplan subway station in Stockholm. Over the years, she has been awarded a number of awards – she has been named the Swedish designer of the year by both FORM AWARD and EDIDA (Elle Decoration International Design Award), she is a two-time winner of the Elle Decoration Swedish Design Award and the Red Dot 'Best of the Best' Award, and she has received both the Form Award and the Bukowski Born Classic for its design.

Åsa was appointed an honorary doctorate at Linnaeus University in 2023.

About Emma von Brömssen

Emma von Brömssen works as a freelance pattern designer. She does design collaborations and runs the wallpaper brand Långelid/von Brömssen together with design colleague Daniel Långelid.

Emma von Brömssen founded her brand in 2008 on the West Coast, in connection with her Master's Degree in Design from HDK Valand in Gothenburg. Durability and quality are some of the characteristics that distinguish both the brand and the designer's product collaborations. The combination of harmonious Nordic color tones and patterns inspired from nature, mean that her designs make the home feel alive. In 2016, Emma was named this year's shooting star by Elle Decoration with the motivation "Dazzling skill combined with a strong feeling for all the inspiration that nature provides is the basis for the pattern treasure that the shooting star of the year has created. She is an artist who succeeds in transferring her unique expression to wallpaper and textiles.”

About Frösö Handtryck

Frösö Handtryck is one of the country's oldest and one of the few remaining handprinters. In their printing house in Jämtland, they work solely with water-based colors and the fabrics do not go through any washing processes, which gives a uniquely low environmental impact. Their solid knowledge of the craft means that they are often hired by museums and institutions to recreate historical textiles. Now, on behalf of the Göteborg Opera, they have transferred Emma von Brömssen's drawings to an exclusive Belgian linen.
